How To Position Yourself For A Leadership Role.
The first question to ask is: Do they Know, Like and Trust you?
Let me know if it sounds familiar:
You’ve worked too hard, it’s not to feel miserable once you’ve reached to top.
Now, you want to ensure that the right people know and appreciate your value, your professionalism, your leadership… Let’s talk about the Know, Like and Trust factor.
The goal here is to increase your perceived value, being seen and heard by the right people and without putting more hours at work.

KNOW: This step is all about visibility.
Visibility is about personal branding. You want people to see you, understand the value you bring to the table and most importantly to be aware of your full potential. You’re doing great work, you’re probably talented and beyond average but your work alone doesn’t speak for itself. Your results are just one aspect of your professional reputation. You want to stay on top of people’s mind in a way that fully reflects who you are as a professional and as a person (because leadership is more about your soft skills than your hard skills).
Be visible, accessible and approachable. Let the employees, stakeholders, other leaders know you as a person.
LIKE: Ok, so now they know you exist. But do they like you?
Hear me out! The goal is NOT to get everyone to like you. Be yourself. Be authentic.
People can easily sense a fraud and a lack of authenticity. Establish your legitimacy as a leader by being transparent, creating and embracing an open environment and building honest relationships.
Don’t go by “Fake it until you make it” or stop believing that you have to act from a more masculine energy in order to be perceived as competent for the job.
I’ve worked with too many clients who felt miserable because what they were doing and more especially the way they were doing it (based on societal and workplace expectations) was not aligned with who they were.
TRUST: People promote people they trust.
Earn that trust. Stand by your word. Simply put, do what you say you’re going to do.
People are more inclined to trust someone who takes action and follows through so don’t allow room for doubt by being a flake.
By focusing on getting people to know and like you, by always helping and showing up – trust automatically builds over time.
It’s called the “Mere Exposure Effect” and basically means that the longer people are exposed to you, the more they’ll start to trust you!
But it means that you’ve to be cohesive and consistent in the way you show up online and in-person.
Did you know? The lack of opportunities for visibility is one of the main barriers to women’s advancement to leadership roles.
Without a strong personal brand, and a solid visibility plan you’ll likely have a hard time to fulfill your ambitions. Without guidance and support, it’s easy to get stuck for months if not years.
Do you currently have the knowledge and game plan to get you there?
