I feel like there is an untold truth no one is talking about when it comes to women in the workplace and it’s time to address it.
Here is the single biggest mistake that we – women – make in the workplace. Oftentimes, we think that delivering that great project on time, staying late hours and lending that new contract are the keys to success.
You know, similar to when we were in school, we would deliver the project on time, provide great value, the professor would appreciate it and we would get a ‘A’.
So unconsciously, we think that by keeping our heads down and working hard, we will get noticed, be promoted to a senior role or even granted a raise. In other words we think that we will be rewarded for our hard work. And by doing, so years and years can go by without you being able to advance your career or lend that dream role.
I’ve been there. Done it. I have sacrificed so much, my family and my health for too long and when I look back and think about it…. was it worth it? Of course it wasn’t! It is not worth it.
Here is what you can do to fast-track your career and attract amazing opportunities.
Of course I need to do a great job but it may not be enough. And this is the one thing that no one tells us.
The one on unwritten rule is to combine personal branding and strategic networking.
Okay, there is nothing new about ‘networking’ but stay with me. How about being strategic and intentional in the way you network.
What does it imply? It means that you have to connect with decision-makers, you have to introduce yourself and make them want to know more about you. And the best way to be successful at it is by having a personal brand that backs up your professional experience .
This could save you years and years of hard work and you wouldn’t have to make all these sacrifices.
I strongly encourage you to include a networking action plan in your personal branding strategy as it will allow you to raise your professional profile faster and put yourself and your competence is in front of the right people.
It doesn’t have to be complicated, it has to be intentional, strategic and effective.
If this resonates with you I would love to hear from you. Feel free to leave a comment, ask your questions and I will be happy to answer them.
