You are not the problem but the way you talk about yourself is.
And oftentimes, it’s related to self-confidence.
So today I’m sharing with you a 4-step formula to help you build self-confidence while starting your personal brand.
STEP 1: Identify your main challenge
Determine what’s holding you back. Is it fear of judgment? Are you scared that family members’ coworkers would criticize you? Or maybe it’s just being in the public eye.
But guess what?! In reality no one cares. Especially when you are at the beginning of building a personal brand and that very few people are aware of your efforts.
I think you should keep in mind that the people who want to actually listen from you outweigh the people who don’t. So focus on the positive.
STEP 2: Standout as much as you can
If you are serious about building your personal brand, you need to prepare yourself to standout from the crowd.
It means becoming more active on social media. It can be writing articles, building your LinkedIn presence (this one is very important), sending out emails to your current network. In other words, the things you need to do in order to increase your visibility and drive growth.
STEP 3: Start preaching
Yes, I said what I said.
Get clear on what you want to share – what you want to be known for, what message do you want to share, who is your audience.
A good place to start is to do your research. Identify the leaders in your industry, look at the way they communicate about your topic of expertise and then, choose your medium. If it’s podcasting, start your podcast. If it’s writing content, start a blog (alternatively, start writing articles on Linkedin). If it’s video, start posting more video content.
Once you all figure it out, focus and start preaching.
STEP 4: Start building your personal brand ASAP
The longer you wait, the longer it will take. Building a strong personal brand is not a one-time thing. It takes work and consistency.
Building a personal brand is critical in a digital world. It’s what sets you apart and can bring you more opportunity than you could ever imagine.
Unfortunately for some of us, it can be overwhelming.
How do you start? What do you say? Or even, what’s a personal brand?
